Forty Below Ltd was founded in the 1970's, based on the serious need to have effective foot protection in extreme cold environments.  The company founder, Bill Lokey of Tacoma, WA, built his first insulated boot covers, called overboots in 1973.  After his experience of several years in Antarctica and numerous expeditions around the world, he developed the original Forty Below® Mt. We've been owned by the same family since the beginning, and our factory has remained in Seattle to this day.
